What is the role of health care reform in shifting the focus from a disease-oriented health care system toward one of wellness and prevention?
The role of the health care reform in shifting the focus to a health care system that promotes wellness and prevention rather than a disease oriented one is to stop diseases before they start, and for all Americans to strive to be healthy and fit. It is so critical for Americans to be healthy and vital in order to be productive and innovative for our nation’s future. The National Prevention Strategy is part of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act and is intended to help in the shift of the nation’s health-care system to one that is focused on prevention and wellness (Benjamin, 2011). The shift to this preventative focus of health care can lead to cost savings but also to saving and improving lives.
