Case Study: Marilyn

Marilyn is a 25-year-old female who originally presented to her primary care provider for treatment of depression. She denies any psychiatric history or medication therapy. Although functional, she did meet criteria for major depressive disorder, having symptoms from six out of nine domains of depression assessment. She was started on sertraline and titrated up to 100 mg daily, but it appeared to worsen her symptoms. She became hyperirritable, had difficulty sleeping, and so she is referred to you for treatment of bipolar depression.
