Introduction
Recent years have seen technological advancement in almost all aspects of life, including those of economics, education and infrastructure. There has been a huge (comment 1 ) increase in computerization in the health sector, and particularly in radiology. Traditionally hospitals have used such conventional imaging systems as Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and Computed Tomography (CT) (Hitachi, 2017), however there is now a need to utilise advanced computer systems to increase the usability and efficiency of images. Picture Archiving and Communications Systems (PACS) can achieve this, PACS comprise the hardware and software for short and long term storage of images and their retrieval, distribution and presentation. PACS are commonly used in hospitals to replace hard film copies with digital images, thus providing easy and simultaneous access by different professionals.
Additionally, PACS help in the digital transmission of images, thus eliminating the need for manual transmission. PACS also enable timely delivery and efficient access to images and interpretation of the related data. In view of this, digital machines are needed by radiology modalities at the Radiology Department at Asir Central Hospital (comment 2), and PACS are the most appropriate alternative. Physicians depend on imaging to learn the internal structures of the human body and for diagnostic purposes (Alalawi et al.. 2016). PACS are not only considered to be necessary in the Asir Central Hospital, but could also be generalized in other

health centres. This would help to ensure that the public get the best from these hospitals,

Currently Asir Hospital uses solid film to display images and is yet to adopt PACS., however there is a need to implement change in order to improve services. We (comment 5) should therefore consider PACS as a tool for change in the Radiology Department at Asir Central Hospital. First, PACS technology would improve the hospital’s image storage and reporting system, providing better services and making it easier and quicker to retrieve images. On occasions the hospital has been challenged by the time taken to retrieve images (Pilling, 2014). This has led to potentially fatal delays in diagnosis, particularly when the situation is critical, PACS would accelerate the diagnosis process, saving many lives and resulting in a

general improvement in the health of the people. RATIONALE GOOD
PACS technology is more effective than solid film, as the user can zoom in on images and the physician can manipulate them for better viewing and analysis. For a long time Asir Central Hospital has been using solid film to display images, but, in order to improve image accuracy, the hospital should consider replacing these with PACS. It would make work easier because, unlike solid film, PACS display 3D images and both the corona] and the sagittal planes.
