1.     Which brain structure serves as a “router” for the brain, allowing stimuli to reach the appropriate region of the cerebral cortex, and allowing for motor commands to reach the brainstem and spinal cord on it’s trip to the peripheral nerves?

2.     Why does the brain contain gyri and sulci?

3.     Which tissue type in the CNS provides for signal transmission—white matter, or gray matter? Explain your choice.

4.     What is the role of the denticulate ligaments and the filum terminale in the CNS? Where are they found, and what is their composition?
