Pollution in The Chesapeake Bay Case Study Analysis

Step 1: Develop a case study and analyze it through the tools of environmental geography

My case study is Pollution in the Chesapeake Bay

Components and steps of the research, generally (and to be reviewed in-class):

  1. Identify your problem/environmental issue
    1. at what scale(s) does the problem occur, and at what scale are the drivers (causes) of the environmental problem?
    2. Are there disagreements about defining the environmental problem?
    3. Who are the major stakeholders, both human and nonhuman?
  2. Identify your primary sources of data.
  3. Identify secondary literature on other parts of the research you need to conduct; complete the annotated bibliography for your case study.
  4. Research and articulate the “feedbacks” between humans and non-humans (the socio-ecological interrelationships)
  5. Identify the cultural and social dimensions of conflict: for example, do the different groups of people operate through the same definitions and assumptions (of, for example “nature” or “economy”)?
  6. Research and articulate the local-global economy (money flows, class analysis, etc.)

Step 2: Develop outlines of 3 Op-Ed pieces; begin writing.

Outline 3-5 major op-ed pieces based on your case study, choosing interrelated themes to explore with each short essay. Think about what aspects of the story you want people to understand most about this issue. Be sure to maintain the complexity of the case study.

I have attached my annotated bibliography that should be used for these op-eds
