This paper will be written in TWO parts

Part One:

Pick three of the following texts “A Rose For Emily” by William Faulkner or “A Good Man Is Hard to Find” by Flannery O’Connor or “The Story of an Hour” by Kate Chopin or “The Use of Force” by William Carlos Williams and show how each of them use a similar feature, idea, insight into psychology, or some other similarity – it’s best to focus on character motives.

First explain how this feature functions in one of the texts of your choosing (“A Rose For Emily” by William Faulkner or “A Good Man Is Hard to Find” by Flannery O’Connor or “The Story of an Hour” by Kate Chopin or The Use of Force by William Carlos Williams).

Discuss why it is interesting. How would you analyze and interpret it? Then explain how the other story from the above options exemplifies/engages with that idea. What does the second story change or add to the feature, idea, insight into psychology, or whatever it is that you selected. Finally, do the same thing, but now add in a third text that you have selected.

Some templates that might help you think about this, “In Faulkner’s story he explores a particular piece of imagery _______ as a way to talk about _________.” After you explained this, you could go into the next story, “O’Connor adds some nuance to what Faulkner was trying to do when he includes ______ in his own story. What he changes here is _______.” In your third analysis of a selected text, you could use something like, “In The Use of Force, Williams does _____, which is almost exactly what Faulkner and O’Connor were exploring. In Williams’s case, what’s interesting is that he _________.” 1075 words.
