Mrs Jones has a large pneumothorax and the medical staff have inserted a thoracic drain tube. It is documented that you need to apply suction to the thoracic drain tube system. You understand that suction is required to:

a)           Re-establish partial pressure in the pleural space, allowing the lung to re-expand.

b)           Re-establish equal pressure in the pleural space, allowing the lung to re-expand.

c)           Re-establish positive pressure in the pleural space, allowing the lung to re-expand.

d)           Re-establish negative pressure in the pleural space, allowing the lung to re-expand.
