It is a well known fact that in modern times, we often pay more for an item than what the store had to pay the manufacturer. Nowadays, it is simply “how it works.” In the Middle Ages, though, this was not the case. Thomas Aquinas proposed the “radical” idea that it was sometimes acceptable for a merchant to sell his goods for more than what he paid for them initially.
