Read the article Bradley-Springer, L., Stevens, L. & Webb, A. (2010). Every nurse is an HIV nurse. American Journal of Nursing, 110(3), 32-39.
The authors describe the “changing epidemic” of HIV from one where the highest percentage of individuals with AIDS diagnoses used to occur in white males to one where non-white persons and females are diagnosed with HIV much more frequently than previously noted. Discuss the role of the professional nurse in this changing epidemic in terms of HIV testing recommendations, susceptible populations, and assisting patients with adherence to medication.
