The “second reconstruction” of the 1960 ‘s became the civil rights movement because it was a time in which Americans protested segregation and urged legislation to make changes. Though political policies were slow to implement change, but the end result was many new legislative acts being introduced, followed by several lawsuits meant to end racial segregation. It was an era during which younger generations spoke out freely against government policies and used several methods to protest and be heard.
