1. Discuss four reasons why earthquakes in different geographic areas might result in different levels of damage. In other words, why might an earthquake with a moderate magnitude, and occurring in Area A, cause more extensive damage than a quake with a high magnitude, in Area B?
2. Describe three methods of short range and two methods of long-range earthquake prediction. Why are short range predictions not more frequently publicized? Of what use are long-range predictions?
3. Briefly describe the composition and thicknesses of the different layers of the Earth. Describe how the behavior of seismic waves within each layer relates to their composition and density.
