A REFLECTIVE ACCOUNT OF THREE DIFFERENT EXPERIENCES ENCOUNTERED DURING PLACEMENT BY
Reflection is of greater interest to nurses and it continues to influence nursing practice and significantly enhances the care given to patients. Reflection helps nurses to continuously update their professional skill which is a Nursing and Midwifery council (NMC) 2015 requirement. According to the NMC code, one of the fundamental duties of a nurse is to provide high standard of care to the patients and their families by treating them as individual (NMC, 2015).
This essay will focus on three different concepts of human qualities in nursing. All these will be examined and analysed using my different experiences and theories in order to gain an insight into my actions and thoughts encountered; thereby creating a better understand of both negative and positive outcome of a situation for the future.  To begin with, I will be using” Gibbs” reflective cycle (1988) as a framework for my analysis, feelings, evaluation of experience and it effects. Gibbs is the model of choice because it has demonstrated that many people learn from experience and it presents a structure and description of the event the individual has experienced.
For the purpose of Confidentiality and Data Protection Act (1998), staffs, patients and the ward described will remain unidentified. Pseudo names will be use throughout the essay.
The main body of my essay will focus on my first scenario and first day of practice as a student nurse in a medical ward. The focus is on the concept of emotional labour.
