According to NASA, the moon is at an average of 238,855 miles distant from earth.

The moon goes around in an elliptical orbit, so it’s not always at the same distance away from Earth.

When the moon is at its farthest distance from earth (called apogee), it’s 252,088 miles away. When it’s closest to earth (called perigee), the moon is 225,623 miles away. This means that the distance from the earth to the moon can vary by 26,465 miles.

It has also been found that the moon is moving away from Earth at an average rate of about 1.5 inches per year.
