Ergogenic Aids
An ergogenic aid is defined to mean anything which will help to increase athletic performance.

Athletes are always looking for any extra edge that they can get on their competition. Because of this, they are extremely susceptible to supplement manufacturers’ claims that their products can enhance performance in any number of ways. Ergogenic aids are those products that supposedly enhance performance, although none actually do even though the term itself means ‘giving rise to energy.’ One such ergogenic aid, for example, is caffeine (which is not energy – it’s a drug, a stimulant).
As an example, here are four peer-reviewed research articles, all with varying degrees of conclusions on use of caffeine as an ergogenic aid; read the abstract or introduction and/or conclusion to make sense of some of the data since these sections generally are written for better understanding:
