100-150 words about their question response. Again, for each post you should provide student original writing and cite your source in text as well as provide full end ref information in APA format.

Question 1

When thinking of pressure, one may first think of stress. Stress is something that may be brought on from a deadline or influence. In physics, pressure is defined as “the ratio of force applied per area covered” (Physics Hypertextbook). Ultimately, this means that pressure is how much force is applied to something, or how much stress is being placed on the object. For example, a machine crushing a soda can is applying pressure to push down the can. The unit used to measure pressure is the Pascal. Another way to think of a Pascal is that a Pascal is equal to one Newton per square meter.

Question 6

Pascal’s Principle is something that we encounter every day. A good example of this principle in action is when we wake up in the morning and squeeze toothpaste onto a toothbrush. This pressure that we are applying on the tube of toothpaste causes an inward force to make the toothpaste come out of the end. Pascal’s Principle is defined as such, ” pressure applied to an enclosed fluid is transmitted undiminished to all parts of the fluid and to the walls of the container” (Inquiry Into Physics). Pascal observed that in a fluid, unlike a solid, when pressure is applied, it transfers to all parts of the fluid.

Ostdiek, V. J., & Bord, D. J. (2018). Inquiry into physics. Boston, MA: Cengage Learning Question 14 There are three types of heat transfer: conduction, convection, and radiation. Conduction is heat transferred between atoms and molecules that come in direct contact with one another. An example of conduction would be leaving a metal spoon in a pot of boiling water. Although the spoon was cool when placed in the cold water, due to conduction, after some time, when you touch that spoon, it will be hot like the water that is boiling in the pot. Convection is mostly seen through fluids. A simple example of convection is ice melting. When heat from the air hits the ice, it heats the ice turning it from a solid to a liquid. Lastly, radiation is heat transferred from electromagnetic waves. When thinking of radiation, many think of cancer, however a good example is someone laying out in the sun as the rays that the sun emits is what provides us with a tan.
