Nursing theories comprise of a set assumptions, concepts, propositions, relationships or definitions derived from nursing models (George, 2002). These theories are employed to develop, describe and disseminate the use of current nursing knowledge (George, 2002). They make assumptions concerning a health problem, target population or behavior (George, 2002). Patricia Benner (2001) is credited for introducing the concept that expert nurses hone skills of patient care over time via rich experiences and strong educational base. Her theory of novice to expert was published in 1984 (Benner, 2001).
