It has been over 17 years since the 9/11 attack that left hundreds of Americans dead and others wounded in what has been named one of the worst terrorist attack in US soil. All this period, both the citizens and security organs has been dealing and trying day and night to fight this new fear with security agencies confronting it heroically in most cases.

It is worth noting that there are a number of issues that affect gathering intelligence today. Changes in economics, terrorism, crime and technology are the main threats (Rossler, 2003). Technology is known to have revolutionized how things are done today. However, with this same technology, it is possible to organize and actually carry out terrorist attacks easily without security authorities getting such information. Changes in economics also makes it hard to identify who is doing legit business and who is not. Today, people work from the house and earn their living without having to go to the office. In such situations, it becomes difficult to tell one doing legit business and those doing illegal business, especially by security agencies.

However, with the introduction of homeland security that was enacted immediately after 9/11, security has been tightened greatly. Though terrorists have also devised new methods of doing their attacks, intelligence agencies have done a good job so far. Actually, it can be said that America is way safer now from such an attack as the 9/11. After adding more security agencies and strengthening the ones that already existed, it has become difficult for terrorists to get into the country or even to launch attacks. In most cases, planned attacks have botched and culprits arrested (Rossler, 2003).
