Discuss some of the major initiatives of DHS that were assigned after their creation. Do you believe DHS is handling them well?

Created in the aftermath of 9/11 the DHS has been tasked with initiatives such as preventing terrorism, ensuring resilience to disasters, and securing our borders. Defending the US against terrorist threats in the DHS founding principle and highest priority. Ensuring resilience to disasters is another duty of the DHS. This is done by increasing information sharing and collaboration and providing grants, plans, and training to their homeland security partners. DHS is also tasked with securing our borders by effectively securing points of entry and safeguarding lawful trade and travel. I believe that the DHS is handling these responsibilities very well. According to the DHS, illegal immigration attempts have decreased by 53% in the past three years. Disaster response has increased greatly through FEMA since 9/11.
