Consider the following Drosophila alleles: g codes for gray body (wildtype is black) c codes for curley bristles (wildtype is straight) s coeds for…

2.  Consider the following Drosophila alleles:

g  codes for gray body (wildtype is black)

c  codes for curley bristles (wildtype is straight)

s coeds for stippled body (wildtype is smooth).

These autsomal loci are arranged in the order

gcs centromere A homozygous gray, stippled strain was crossed to a homozygous curly strain, and the F

1 were generally wildtype in their phenotypic appearance, but microscopic examination of the flies revealed

that a few rare individuals had one of three basic patterns.

The patterns are:

a.  A gray, stippled sector next to a curly sector.

b.  A gray sector next to a curly sector.

c.  Solitary gray sectors.

Explain the origin of these three patterns with a single unifying hypothesis.
