1. Read Ch. 4 of Medical Law and Ethics (5th ed.). Answer the following question between 120-150 words

  • Why is it important to understand organizational philosophies and mission statements?

2.Read Ch. 4 of Medical Law and Ethics (5th ed.). Write your thoughts on the chapter between 120-150 words

3. (Respond back to post between 110-150 words)The importance of an organization’s mission statement is to detail to the customer what the organization’s purpose or service is and how it can best fit the customers it is targeting as well as how far the company can reach in getting the message to the customers such as locally or worldwide. An example mission statement could be a phrase such as “Protect and Serve” or “We’ll match or beat any competitor’s price”. It captures and draws attention in order to attract customers.

The organization’s philosophy will project the overall values or ethical standards a company has and can offer to the public. The business philosophy will allow the public to get an idea of the visionary scope the company has and possibly an idea of expansion in the future if it does well. I think an organization’s philosophy will set it apart from others as well as set the stage for growth and development. Additionally, the philosophy will help employees to better serve customers and identify the overall goals of the company and all are important in whether the company thrives or fail.

4. Read Ch. 8 of Medical Law and Ethics (5th ed.). How would a manager deal with elements of an organization’s culture that are, or are perceived as, inconsistent? Answer the following question between 120-150 words

5. (Respond back to post between 110-150 words) There are situations in which a manager can detect inconsistencies in an organization’s culture. The first course of action should be to find out whether the inconsistencies are real or if they are perceived to be. Policies and procedures that follow the standards of the company’s mission statement and its values must be in place for all the employees to be able to perform their job consistently; also an employee’s handbook and appropriate training must be put into place and used as a guiding tool. However, even when all these items are in place, there could be times when inconsistencies are noted. Managers should use effective communication skills to find out as much information as possible; then ensure that there is a specific policy that addresses the issue at hand and then he or she can address the situation through the proper channels as required by the organization. Consistency is very important to keep employees motivated and to increase productivity, whether hiring, disciplining an employee, doing reviews or evaluating someone’s work, the same standards the organization sets forth must be communicated to all and followed.

7.Read Ch. 13 of Ethics: Theory and Contemporary Issues (8th ed.). Write your thoughts on the chapter between 120-150 words

8. (Respond back to post between 110-150 words) I was astonished by the decision made in chapter 13. There was a situation were two women suffered from a massive heart attack. Although the oldest out of the two suffered first, her situation was placed on hold for the younger lady based on age and chances for recovery. The older lady eventually died due to the delay of help.

In this situation I am at a cross. Its not fair that the older lady situation was placed on hold, but I can understand why. If they would have pursued with the older lady situation, the younger lady could have died with the risk of the older lady not recovering. That could create two losses. I would have probably made the same decision.
