The procedure I chose was chemical peels. Chemical peels are a type of procedure done on the face, neck or hands. A chemical solution is applied to any of these areas of the skin. The chemical solution then causes the skin to blister and then eventually peel off as a result. It then leaves behind a much younger looking, less wrinkled and smoother appearing skin.

Individuals would undergo a procedure like getting a chemical peel to reduce the amount of wrinkles and fine lines, treat sun damage, improve the appearance of scars, treat ache, reduce age spots and freckles, and also to improve the overall appearance and feel of their skin. Some possible complications that come with this procedure include: a temporary or permanent color change in skin, some scarring, and the possible reoccurrence of cold sores.

The direct effects chemical peels have on the integumentary system are layers of skins are directly removed due to the blistering from the chemical applied.

The indirect effects chemical peels have on the integumentary system are possible reoccurrence of cold sores on the skin, possible skin color changes can occur, and even infection and scarring.
