Tragedy in literature is defined as a play wherein the protagonist loses something and in a comedy the protagonist gains something.In traditional tragedies the actions of the protagonists often lead to their downfall yet The Cherry Orchard is about the tragedy of inaction. It is the refusal to act that results in the loss of the orchard.
