Non-Relational Models

We study the relational model for databases and it’s related structured query language (SQL) because it has been the dominant model for database systems for many years.

What are other data models that have been developed? Find an article about a different data model, post it, and describe the advantages and disadvantages of that data modeling approach. Some models include flat files, XML, hierarchical, network, NoSQL, star schemas, blockchain, etc.

Databases organize types of data and then help make relationships between the different relationships. The main types of data models are relational, hierarchical and network. All of them have their own advantages and disadvantages. The network database model was a progression, and made to solve problems from the hierarchical database model. The main benefit of the network model is its many to many relationship, as the hierarchical model only has the one to many relationships. On the down side, network databases do not have structures that resolve many-to-many relationships. Each model has its own advantages and disadvantages.
